New HDD for Latitude D830

Hello!

I have a Latitude D830 2007 model. The HDD seems to have crashed and unfortunately my warranty expired this July only :( . I am looking for a HDD that can be used. Currently I had a Fujitsu 2.5" 150 mbps 120GB SATA HDD. It turns out that the 160 GB and 250 GB were built with a different technology (PMR) than the 120 GB. Also, SATA 300 mbps has extra pins compared to my current model. Does anyone have an idea if the laptop can support the PMR technology HDD or the SATA2 /3/ SSD HDDs?

Any info is appreciated. Thank You!

I own a D830 and it uses regular SATA Laptop Drives.

PMR is a Samsung reference aka
Samsung Spinpoint M80 160GB SATA with PMR technology.
Perpendicular recording (or Perpendicular Magnetic Recording, PMR)
is a technology for data recording on hard disks and has nothing to do
with the SATA connector or standard.

It was first proven advantageous in 1976 by Shun-ichi Iwasaki,
then professor of the Tohoku University in Japan,
and first commercially implemented in 2005.

A Seagate Momentus or Western Digital Scorpio Blue 2.5 inch drive will fit and work just fine.

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 16 MB Cache 2.5-Inch Bare Drive - ST9500420ASG

Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT

The D810  uses PATA Drives with an interposer attached to the drive.

Hi Sidsnayak,

Did you already purchase a drive and find that it does not fit properly?

PMR is not new, it's been around for years.
