Not Reading Disc

Hi, recently my cd drive on my Dell Inspiron 530 (running Windows
Vista 64 Bit) decided to stop reading the disk. The drive still will
eject disks and I can still eject discs from windows. The drive still
has power to it but is not reading the discs. It will not boot from cd
as well for obvious reasons.

So I guess what I meant to say there is that it is Functioning in terms of opening and closing but not reading the disc.

Thanks for your help in advance

Have a great day!

Does the drive appear in My Computer?  If it does, then run the Dell
Diagnostics on the drive.  The Diagnostics should be on your hard drive.
Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the screen.  This will
take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition or Diagnostics
will be a choice.  Run the Custom Test for the drive and have a data
CD (not music CD) in the drive for the read test.

I have a dell inspiron N7010 laptop. The disc drive HL-DT-ST DVD GT10N will not read any cd or dvd. Ran diagonstic test and it failed all test for reading of cd or dvd. The laptop is only 6 months old. And it's possible it never works. Have never tried to us dvd until now.  Any suggestions?

Since the drive has failed during the Diagnostics, use the warranty.
Call Dell, describe the problem and the Diagnostics results and they
should replace the drive.
