Philips DVD8631 Media Compatibility

Hi,
I was just wondering. Does the Philips DVD8631 support Samsung Pleomax DVD+/-R 8X media. I'd like to know 'cause I'm going to by 50 DVDs and I'm not sure if I'm just wasting my money. The drive has been able to burn and read all CDs and DVD+/-Rs.

I'd appreciate any help.

You are wasting your money. Nobody records accurately or reliably at that speed yet.

Well Speedstep
I wasn't actually asking about the speed. I was asking whether the discs are going to work at all, at any speed. Any info on that would be nice.
But thanks for reminding me about the speed. %D

Drive: Philips DVD8631
OEM:Philips-BenQ
Chipset:Philips
Model DELL XPS GEN2

Have not been able to write to DVD -RW media, despite drive being labeled DVD +-. Dell tech support has been ineffective in explaining why the drive will not write to -RW media. I updated the firmware to BD10 from the dell site. Tried 3 burns with tyg02, ritek g03, plus and minus. None of them play correctly on my standalone units. Kprobe shows scans of .12 avg pif, which should be great, but won't play on standalone. All my other burners produce playable dvd's. Called Dell and having them change out the drive. I won't get another philips!

Plenomax media
Media Type: White Inkjet Printable DVD+R for General Purpose (1x/16X) Ink Jet Printable Surface
Native Capacity: 4.7 GB
Mfgr Part No: Samsung DXP47650IK
Format: DVD+R 1x/16x General Purpose in 50 disc cake box with Ink Jet Printable Surface - 300 disc per case.

I am not aware of Plenomax being in the -R flavor or the -RW flavor.

I have no issues with the plenomax media. I do with the drive.

So that was the problem huh.. Your PHilips DVD8631... I'm having the same problems right now.. WIth my older Gateway computer I could burn DVD's no problem and they would play in any one of my four dvd players.. Now with the brand new Dell, I can burn a DVD with no problems, however, I can only play back the dvd on my computer and
none of my other dvd players.. It's very disappointing.. I didn't realize that it may be the burner itself until I started reading about a lot of the same complaints..
I'll be giving tech support a call.
