Precision 690 HDD failure?
Hi I have a suspect HDD failure on my Precision 690 however I cannot seem to diagnose it. I have another 690 with a spare HDD but I can't get the system to recognise any HDD at all. I have reset the Bios to the default but still no joy. This makes me wonder if the original HDD was OK and that the fault may lie somewhere else maybe with the HDD controller or something. If so how do I test for this. My service tag is [Admin Note: Service tag removed per TOU] and the machine is well out of warranty.

Hi Trothwell,
Boot to your Dell drivers and utilities disc and run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive.
When you said you can't get "the system" to recognize any hard drive, do you mean the BIOS, disk management, or what?
