Problem With Dell XPS 1330 DVD/CD driver (Matshita DVD+RW UJ-857G ATA Device)
Dear All,
I have Dell laptop XPS M1330 and I have a problem with my DVD/CD-ROM drives
Matshita DVD+RW UJ-857G ATA Device
It does not read or write on any dvd or cd can you please help ASAP
What should I do?

your hard drive. Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the
screen. This will take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition
or Diagnostics will be a choice. Run the Custom Test for the drives
and have a data CD (not music CD) ready for the read test.

Some data CD's works fine but no music CD's work also i can not recored any CD or DVD
Please Help

In your original post you said the drive "does not read or
write on any dvd or cd". Now you say some CDs will read.
What error messages are you receiving when you try to play
a music? What error messages to you receive when you try
to burn a disc? What burning software are you using to burn
a disc?
What were the results of the Diagnostics?

I have similar problems with my drive. It passes all diagnostic tests but still every once in a while it fails reading a CD. Yesterday I got a new TurboTax CD and the drive was unable to read it. After trying 10 times and having it fail consistently, I had to take the CD to my desktop and copy it to new +R CD, which was read without any problems.
I understand from friends who have the same drive on Mac's that Apple has issued a new microcode and driver that address this type of issue, but I have not seen any similar solution from Dell.
I would appreciate it if anybody knows of a solution as many times I do not have my desktop nearby to rescue me.
