Process for new hard drive

I purchased a new hard drive for my XPS M1530 and am trying to load the original system (Vista) on it (after doing that I want to upgrade to Windows 7, I have the disk). The first problem I encounter is that I am asked to select a driver to be installed. Doesn't Dell have a procedure manual or something that tells how to re-install the original system on this computer after purchasing a new hard drive from them? No instruction sheet came with the hard drive

Hi doninwash,

Please refer to the link http://dell.to/10JtJkj for instruction of installing Windows Vista. Once the Windows are installed follow the instruction on the link http://dell.to/14zC8Um to install the drivers in correct sequence.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Doninwash,

Boot to the BIOS and look for the RAID or SATA controller mode. There should be an option to change it to ATA instead of RAID or SATA. That will allow the Vista installer to see your drive.

Thanks for the information. The problem I seem to be having, however, is that the computer will not recognize that I installed a new hard drive (it says it can't find one). I have followed the procedure you suggested and it then comes up and tells me to install the drivers CD, which I do, only to have that disk say it cannot find a driver for the hard drive (perhaps because it cannot recognize one). I have tried taking the hard disk out and re-inserting it but it comes up with the same messages.
