Replacement Hard Drive

I received a 0F00:0244 error message and after reading through the forums I have to believe I need to replace it.  I checked Dell's recommendation for a replacement for the system I purchased from them and they recommend a Western Digital WD3200AAJB Caviar Blue Hard Drive - 320GB, 7200rpm, 8MB, ATA-100, EIDE, OEM.  The original hard drive in the computer was replaced two years ago with a Seagate 1TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-3G.

I didn't think these two types were interchangeable and now I don't know what I'm supposed to replace it with.

Can anyone explain this to me?

The Dimension 4600 uses a SATA hard drive.  You can use a SATA drive from any souce of your choice.

SATA and IDE are two differnt types of drives and are not interchangeable.  What is the model of computer you are using?

Just curious about the last one that was installed.  It failed 10 days after going out of warranty which is frustrating.  There is less than 30% of the space on the drive used.  Would the size of the drive have anything to do with it or can I put it down to the wonderful run of luck I seem to be having as of late?

Hi Imssuthrnlady,

Hard drives can fail at any time. That's why we so strongly encourage a rugged backup plan. Think of it as your computer's "spare tire". You wouldn't go on a trip without one, even if with high quality tires on your car.

At least I do back up consistently.  That doesn't mean it is any less of a pain.  It's just frustrating to spend good money only to have something fail shortly after warranty expires.  Thanks for the info though.  It's appreciated.

Yes, it's frustrating. That's life! :emotion-6:
