With Vista RC1 you have to provide the drivers. I put them on a usb drive and it went quite easy to load them.

RC2 included the drivers.  No need to F6.

So you dont have to have the SATA controller drivers on the final version of Vista, they should just auto pick up the SATA hard disk upon installation?

Depends on the model computer, and whether the SATA drive will be the boot drive.  Is the XP CD the latest version from Dell?

Correct, unless they change it from RC2 to the final release.  Which doesn't make sense.

Oops...Guess I didn't realize that my first amendment rights are limited on this forum.

Here's my politically correct version of my previous post. Hopefully my commenting on the fact that it was removed doesn't get my account banned, but if so, no biggie I guess.

"Sir, you did not need to provide a driver in this particular case because Microsoft simply integrated a greater number of newer chipset drivers into its WinPE setup environment. When new hardware comes after Vista is released, you will still need to provide a driver, just as you had to in XP. According to documents I browsed earlier, however, in Vista you will finally be able to use USB memory sticks and/or CDs/DVDs, as appropriate, instead of the only being allowed to use floppies, quite an obsolete technology if I may say so. I am quite pleased that with this turn of events I should never have to make an attempt at slipstreaming drivers into a Windows installation disk again."
