SSD Drive to install in a Dell Precision Workstation 450
Is it possible to install a SSD Drive (San Disk) 128 GB into an old Desktop like Dell Precision 450 ?
If yes, what kind of precondiotions are needed for this ?
Please note, the Desktop is from the year 2002 and has included one IDE-Interface and ATA100.

If it doesn't have a SATA port, it would need an adapter or an expansion card. If you use an adapter, you can't use AHCI and the throughput will stink. If you use a card, the PCI bus speeds and bandwidth will be a bottleneck. There is NO way the performance will be worth the effort or cost on a system like this. You'd be better off with a $40 used OptiPlex from ~2006 or so.

***UPDATE*** I purchased a 125GB PATA SSD that works with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. After installing Windows 7 ultimate x86 on it, it works better than it ever has. My precision 450 comes with 4GB of RAM, a 320GB PATA HHD, a HD 4670 GPU and an external RAID 5 SATA Pci-X adapter. The CPU config is two 3.2Ghz SL7AE Xeon processors that actually give a 1066Mhz experience. Talk about future proof, This computer is 13 years old and is still a favorite among its users. I've had to replace the Motherboard twice as the capacitors back then were garbage. I lucked out and got a refurbished board from the UK with the updated capacitors. Love Dell Workstations!
***UPDATE*** To successfully install the OS on the SSD you're going to need the OS with SP1 or better.

Could you tell me which 2.5" to 3.5" adapter you used?
