Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A Help

I have a Dell XPS M140, with Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600).  I had recently reformatted my laptop due to trojan infection.  I had tried many antispare, antiadware and antivirus, but was unusuccessful to remove it.  I attempted to load the drivers via cd/dvd rom using the cd that came with my laptop, but for some reason cd/dvd rom woulnt read the cd.  All of the drivers were then obtained and installed from dell website, including the one for Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A (latest driver for it downloaded from here-->Drivers & Downloads) < ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Laptop is working fine except for the cd/dvd rom.

Thanks.

The driver is part of Windows and is a generic Microsoft driver that all optical
drives use.  What you downloaded was Firmware.  When you applied the
Firmware, did it successfully install?

Is the drive recognized in the Device Manager?

Reboot the system and press F12 to obtain the boot menu and run the diagnostics
on the drive.

[Prompt]  The CD inserted in your CD-ROM drive does not  contain any digital data.  You must insert a CD containing digital data such as a software installation CD if you would like to try again.  Would you like to try again?
--> 2 more CDs were inserted but drive was unable to read them.

Thanks.

I do not have access to the Dell error codes, but my guess is that the drive has failed.
