UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME 0X0000000ED Hard Drive HELP

First let me start with the fact that I am not a guru, so I apologize in advance if I sound stupid.  Dell E1505 Running Windows XP

It all started with the dreaded blue screen with the above error. Here is what I have tried:

Ran Diagnostics Came back with error code 2000-142 on my HD

Put in the XP CD and went into the Recovery Console ,here is where it gets wierd.  Instead of showing my C: drive it brings up F:\minint  I have no idea what the heck that is or how or if I can change it to my C drive.  So I tried this:

F:minint CHKDSK C: /P /R  - It started  went up to 75% completed and then rolled back to 50% totally hung.

I know that my HD is more than likely toast and will have to be replaced, but maybe someone has a suggestion that would help??

Anyone??  Thanks in advance

If you need to recover data from the drive, purchase a 2.5" SATA external drive case ($10-20) and mount the drive into it. Attach it to a working system by USB and copy what you can still read.

You'll need a new 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive to replace your failing unit.
