Upgrade Inspiron 9300 HD to 250gb drive? How to?
I have read conflicting views as to whether this is possible. Is it possible to upgrade with another 5400 IDE drive and go up to 250gb? I have heard the BIOS will only recognize 137gb, but if you partition the 250gb drive into two 125gb drives, each can be seen by the BIOS. Anyone with advice or experience? Thanks

If you have the EIDE version, the BIOS is limited to 120G max. Yes, you CAN use a larger drive, but doing so poses risks to your data - so keep backups!

Can the BIOS be updated to a newer version that would recognize a larger disc?

No, there's no BIOS that supports larger drives available for the PATA version of this system.
