Upgrading Standard Hard disk to SSD.

Hello! I have an Inspiron N5110. I have A standard SATA 640 GB hard drive. I want to take it out and replace it with a 128GB SSD, for faster bootups and apps.

Has anyone done this with this model and Is it possible and  safe?

What things do I have to check to see if A SSD is compatible with my laptop, and how to check if my system BIOS supports it>

At last can dell do the replacing process for me because I do not want to mess up with my laptop?

Hi waabis,

SSD can be installed in Inspiron N5110 by removing the existing hard drive. Use the following link for watching the video for the SSD installation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8wWVzSjaOk

Please use the following link for the Inspiron N5110 service manual for instructions to remove the hard drive:

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Following link is for an SSD compatible with your computer: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=1A692152A5CA7304

Please do reply for any further clarifications.

Thanks  a lot just wanted to ask you, " How do I know if my BIOS supports the SSD?" and "Can I pay Dell to install it for me?"

Hi wabbis,

Yes as the SSD is also a SATA connection it will be shown in BIOS as SATA operation.

Please check the link in the previous post which shows you a video how to install a SSD in your system by yourself, or you can also hire a Dell technician to replace the SSD in the system or take the system and the SSD to a local store and get it fixed.

Please reply for any information.
