Upgrading hard drive in a inspiron 1520

Need help to decide which is the best hard drive to update my old one, I have a Inspiron 1520 with a 160gb ata drive, can any one suggest choices for a new one that will be compatible with Vista 32 and my computer, I am looking at a 500GB. I don't know if a SATA drive will work in the computer??

also which mirror software program is best to upgrade the hard drive, one that is easy and will do the job.

thank you for your help

Hardware:  you can use any 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive.

Software:  you CANNOT simply clone the existing drive as it is.  Read below for the details.

Yes, they are - the 1520 uses SATA -- not PATA.
