Vostro 400--Does It Have Capability to Boot from External Hard Drive?

Getting a Vostro 400 Q6600 this week. In preparation I cloned my HDD (using Norton Ghost) from my old Dell DIM XPS T700r running Win98se. I know I will be able to see it as a removable drive on the Vostro. I am wondering if there is a USB boot option on the Vostro for an external HD (not just a flash drive). This would be handy for using programs, etc. that can't be transferred to the new system due to compatability issues. Wouldn't need drivers, etc. because I wouldn't use it to run any peripherals just use a few old programs. Thanks.

Yes, the system can boot USB -- but it has to be a version of Windows that has support for the hardware in the new system, which Windows 98 will not.

You would still need drivers to get the OS to run on the system - and there aren't any for that new hardware and an OS that's now almost two decades old.
