adding a SATA II 300mbps in Dimension 3100?
Hi all, I only have 1 x 80GB harddrive in my 3100. I'm hoping to buy a 2nd drive for the second bay. There is space for another drive and also room for one more sata cable. I'd like to get a 250GB SATA 2 drive but I'm unsure if the motherboard will support sata2. Does anyone know if this is the case? Also, are there any restrictions on the size of the new drive? i.e. would 250GB be too much or is the file-size irrelevant? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The 250GB SATA-2 hard drive will work fine in the Dimension 3100/e310, SATA-2 drives are backwards compatible to SATA-1.
After installing the additional hard drive, remember to check in the system setup to see that the drive is enabled [on].

Thanks Bev, all worked fine. Put the 250GB on SATA0 and imaged my old 80GB drive onto the new drive.
Thanks for your help.
