dimension 4600 Hard Drive/motherboard problem
My old hard drive stopped working on my Dimension 4600, only making a clicking and beeping sound. Then the system could not find the hard drive so I bought a Seagate 320 GB. When I installed the new one the system still did not show a hard drive in BIOS setup. When I plugged the ribbon cable from the new hard drive into the port where the CD drive goes to then the hard drive was recognized in the secondary drive and when I plugged the CD drive cable into the primary port where the hard drive was nothing showed up. So I guess I have a bad port and need to replace the motherboard. Dell tells me that I have an HY 008 motherboard. Does anyone know where to find one?

If you browse eBay, you probably can find one that costs less.
Personally, if replacing a 4600 motherboard cost about $200, I would think about buying a new system.
