hard drive

I have a inspiron 1525 with vista ( I do not like Vista) I have tried to reformat to windows Xp with no success. I am thinking about getting a new hard drive and installing windows Xp on it. Can you tell me if the Western Digital 500gb SATA 3Gb/s 8mb 5400rpm 2.5in Scorpio blue will work. And what I would have to do. Thank you

You can use that drive.  Go into the BIOS setup and change the drive from AHCI to ATA compatible.  Then boot a WIndows XP CD (SP2 minimum) and do the installation.

BEFORE you do this, be sure you have ready to go, on a CD, DVD or flash drive:

The Dell notebook system software

The Intel chipset driver

The driver for whatever (wired, wireless) you use to connect to the Internet.

Install XP, then the drivers IN THAT ORDER.  Then you can go online to get the Windows updates and the rest of the drivers (audio, video, modem, touchpad, etc.).
