problems w/ dim 4400 NEC NR-7900A CD DRIVE

HELLO, I AM HAVING REAL PROBLEMS WITH MY CD DRIVE. FIRST OFF, WHEN I GO TO MY COMPUTER, THERE IS NOTHING TO DO WITH A CD DRIVE ANYWHERE. THE ONLY THING I REALLY KNOW IS THAT WHEN I GO TO DEVICE MANAGER, AND LOOK UNDER DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES, MY _NEC NR-7900A DRIVE COMES UP WITH A EXCLAMATION MARK WITH YELLOW BACKROUND. WHEN I GO TO PROPERTIES FOR MY DRIVE, IT SAYS Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
. I TRIED REPLUGING THE PLUGS FOR THE CD DRIVE, BUT IT DIDNT HELP. I ALSO UNINSTALLED, AND WHEN I REBOOTED THE COMP., IT SAID "FOUND NEW HARDWARE", BUT NOTHING HAPPENED AFTER THAT.

I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IF SOMEONE COULD HELP ME
-THANKS

Thanks for the reply skybird, but is that safe, or can it damage my comp?
