The VG is spread across multiple storage devices and the hosts sharing the VolumeGroup do not have access to all the storage devices behind the volume groups, there occurs a partial sharing scenario of the VolumeGroup amongst the Hosts. In that case, the value of "Other' is used.
In an ideal condition the host sharing the volume group should have access to all the LUN(in that VG) or none(only half or incomplete number of LUNs does not server any purpose) .
When you said spread across multiple storage devices, is it OK to mix devices from two different Clariions(or two SYM) in a VG?
Also is it an approved/supported method to have LUNs mixed from a Clar and a SYM in a given VG(we dont do this)?
Volume group can reside on multiple devices with luns mixed from Sym or Clariion or from host internal devices. This is not common but can happen. If volume group resides on luns mixed from Sym and Clariion, and those luns are shared by multiple hosts, then VG_Shared would still show 'Yes'. The value 'Other' happens when one of the device is not shared. For example, if volume group resides on 3 devices, two of them are shared by multiple hosts but one of them is unknown or not shared, then VG_Shared is 'Other'. This is due to the fact that the hosts sharing the device are not fully discovered (so we do not know if it is shared) or the device is host internal device (not shared).

I believe it the case wherein:
The VG is spread across multiple storage devices and the hosts sharing the VolumeGroup do not have access to all the storage devices behind the volume groups, there occurs a partial sharing scenario of the VolumeGroup amongst the Hosts. In that case, the value of "Other' is used.
