SupportAssist Get Drivers & Downloads not working.

Whenever I try to run it, it says, "System is busy, try after some time." I've tried every day for a few days and still nothing. How do I fix it?

Hi Carlo,

I do not have Dell Update, I have:

Dell Command | Update for Windows Universal
Dell ControlVault Host Components
Dell Digital Delivery Services
Dell Power Manager Service
Dell SupportAssist
Dell SupportAssist OS recovery plugin for Dell Update

Mosto of them can be only uninstalled, for the last there is the possibility to uninstall or change.

Thanks

I've found a solution. I had the same problem, and i fix it with this steps:

  1. Open Control Panel > Program and Features
  2. Find "Dell Update"
  3. Right click on it > press on "Restore" or "Reset" (idk in english what is the exatly word)
  4. After finish the process, open again SupportAssistant and retry to scan for updates

If the process freezing, press cancel and open SupportAssistant....

Hi CarlosHD:

I don't know if this is relevant, but the Known Issues section <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> in the SupportAssist v3.11.4 release notes warns that SupportAssist driver scans may not work correctly after Dell Update is installed or updated, so the order in which these two programs are installed or updated can sometimes cause issues.  This bug applies to all variations of Dell Update , including Dell Command | Update and Alienware Update.  See my 17-Aug-2022 post in campfiresmoke's Windows Universal Application 4.6.0 A00 for more information about this bug.

so the order in which these two programs are installed or updated can sometimes cause issues.

So forcing the "restore" from the panel control i've trigger a different order of installation. Maybe is this the reason why to me works. Or just a lucky day.
For now i've the last version of Dell Update (4.6.0) and all works fine

...when I ran SUMo yesterday it detected an available v3.12.1.180 update for my current SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 and it's associated Dell Data Vault (DDV) modules ( note that I only use SUMo to check for available updates for my third-party software but don't actually allow SUMo or any other software updater utility to download and install updates)...

Hi regressist:

Just an FYI that SUMo detected even newer updates for SupportAssist v3.12.2.40 and it's associated Dell Data Vault (DDV) modules today, so it looks like Dell has already pulled v3.12.1.180 and moved on to v3.12.2.40.  That would tie in with Dell employee DELL-Chris M's 03-Oct-2022 thread SA 3.11.4, False GPU Failure, Error Code D0814 about a bug fix expected for v3.12.2.x

SUMo v5_16_1 Dell SupportAssist v3_12_2_40 Available 05 Oct 2022.png

Early feedback from crimsom in their 01-Oct-2022 thread 17 R5, SupportAssist x64 v3.12.2.40 Stuck on Scan Hardware Option isn't very encouraging so I'm not confident that v3.12.2.40 is actually going to fix many of the bugs reported for v3.11.4.29.

Just FYI, I launched my SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (which seems to run correctly on my Inspiron 5584 / Win 10 Pro v21H2 machine) today and Options (gear icon) | About still says I have the latest available version.  I'll post back if the new v3.12.2.40 update is eventually offered to my machine.

Thank you, I hope my Support Assistant will  be updated without my intervention, I do not have much time to go behind these issues...

Hi The Escaper / regressist:

I launched SuppportAssist v3.11.4.29 today and was offered an update to an even newer v3.12.3.5. I accepted the update and manual "Get Driver & Downloads" and "Scan Hardaware" scans ran to completion from the Home tab of v3.12.3.5. During the hardware scan I noticed that the status of the scan frequently changed from "scanning" to "optimizing" (see 2nd image below), which I don't recall seeing before, but there's nothing logged in the Recent Activity log on the History tab to indicate exactly what type of optimization was performed  to my hardware.

The release notes for SupportAssist v3.12.3 have been posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs and the minimum system requirements <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> confirm that this new version requires .NET Core Runtime v6.0.x.

Thank you,

upon your info I started the assistant and it updated. After which I started the drivers update and it did not find anything to update (strange because there were two or one still missing from the last in August).

Maybe it will find them later...

Hi regressist:

Just an FYI that my manual "Get Drivers & Downloads" scan ran as expected on my Inspion 5584 with SupportAssist v3.12.3.5. The scan detected one available update for the Realtek Memory Card Reader Driver v10.0.18362.31252 (which I didn't bother to install, since I don't use the memory card slot on my laptop), and this is the same update currently detected by my Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.6.0.

SupportAssist v3_12_3 Manual Get Drivers and Downloads One Update Detected 11 Oct 2022.png

I recall you said you had a Latitude 5591. If you enter your unique Service Tag at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=products this should automatically redirect you to the support page for your Latitude 5591, and the list of available updates on the Drivers and Downloads tab should be filtered so that you only see updates that specifically match your computer model and Service Tag. Are you certain the two updates that were posted back in August 2022 are actually recommended for your unique Service Tag?

Also note that if the Downloads and Drivers page lists a software update for an application that isn't already installed on your computer (e.g. Dell Command | Update Windows Universal Application v4.6.0, Dell Power Manager Service 3.11.0, etc.) then that update won't be recommended by SupportAssist. These "optional" applications normally aren't installed at the factory because they're not critical to the operation of your computer, and the application has to be manually installed by the user before SupportAssist and/or Dell Update detects that the application is installed and starts looking for available updates.  The only exception to this rule that I know of is for Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools (a.k.a. Dell SupportAssist Remediation or System Repair) - that software isn't listed on Downloads & Drivers page of your support page but if it is missing from your system then SupportAssist will nag you to install it.

Hi,

yes I am sure that they were for my laptop because the picture was taken from  the Assistant, not from the web page. When the Assistant shows some sw then  it is always installed if I agree. I never did any installation from the web.

Usually I let it install one by one to check that they run ok and in case to roll back.

Thank you for this!  I had the same issue and running "repair" on Dell Command Update" in control panel fixed it!

FYI Dell Update and Dell Command Update are basically the same program, just one is for home computers and ones for business.

I've got the same problem but was solved by this link below (a video from youtube).

It seemed a dell application disabled by some windows updates, but worked when enable. All good now!!

Go to Dell official Website to download drivers . Search for "Dell Update for Windows Universal" download latest version.Install lastest version and when prompt for restart after installation is complete wait for 10 mins then restart your computer. After restart when booted to windows again wait for 5 mins for support assist to load all required services and then check for drivers and download in SupportAssist BOOM it will start working again. And your problem is solved .

I tried to update drivers both from SupportAssist and going to the "Dell official Website to download drivers" and the system never gets past:

"Please wait while SupportAssist checks for driver updates...0%"

Is there anything else I can try?
