I recently encountered the same error and the event viewer displayed an error showing "This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms".

I was able to resolve the error by disabling FIPS mode by doing the following.

Go to Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options > System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing
Switch the flag to disabled.

In my testing I haven’t needed to reboot after changing the setting, but if the issue persists, a restart may be required.

I am getting exactly the same error but even after implementing your proposed solution , the problem is not solved

The following setting is already disabled. Still I am getting the same issue.

"System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing"

I have noticed another issue with the Support Assist Installer. Check the properties of installer file and you will find the certificate on the installer is already expired on 23/01/2022. I think this is the root cause and not sure why Dell haven't pay attention towards this so far. Issue is unresolved yet.2022-03-03 21_49_37-Certificate.jpg

HELLO DELL--why do you ignore everyone? This is absurd, your support tool should just install, it is not our job to learn about FIPS or whatever other dependency you have pointlessly built in to this unreliable software, it should just work. First, the existing installation started hanging in the middle every time it was run, so I uninstalled it so I could reinstall and see if that fixed the issue. Perfectly reasonable thing to do. Now I can't reinstall it, so now my expensive Latitude has no software support. Please fix this, keep it simple!

Hi DSBVAL

What is your Windows OS (if Win 10 /Win 11 please include your version and build at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications) and the full model number of your Latitude computer?

Note that this thread was started by Porteno on 30-Jan-2020. Several users have recently reported a new problem where installation of SupportAssist is cancelled due to a file validation error but the problem doesn't appear to have anything to do with FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) encryption. Users are now reporting that Dell is trying to push out an undocumented SupportAssist v3.11.x update (i.e., not the "current" SupportAssist v3.10.4.18 listed on the documentation page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs), and the current theory is that there is a problem with the digital certificate and/or SHA256 hash of the downloaded installer.

I'm not sure if this SupportAssist v3.11.x installer is only being pushed out to higher-end Alienware / Latitude / OptiPlex models right now but you might want to monitor crimsom's 24-May-2022 thread 17 R5, Dell SupportAssist x64 v3.11.2.143 Installation Failed and post there if you're seeing the same "Installation Cancelled. We were unable to validate a file for installation. This may be due to a lost internet connection. Check your connection and try again" error as crimsom.

Guys, the issue is resolved after logging to system with Built-in Administrator user.

If it's a domain computer, please try logging with Local Admin user and the application will be installed.

If it's workgroup (personal) computer, try switching the user and preferably with Local Admin user

Hi amangupta051:

Which issue? The FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) encryption error being discussed in this thread or the new file validation error that appears when undocumented SupportAssist v3.11.x installers are pushed out to the system?

User crimsom reported in their 24-May-2022 thread 17 R5, Dell SupportAssist x64 v3.11.2.143 Installation Failed that the digital certificate of their SupportAssistx64-3.11.2.143.msi installer (not SupportAssistLauncher.exe) is not expired but I did notice that the digital certificates of various SupportAssist installers recently started using a SHA-512 hash instead of a SHA-256 hash (although I don't know if that's relevant).

User anewlime also reported <here> in crimsom's thread that they couldn't install SupportAssist on their system after logging in to their built-in Administrator account.
