SupportAssist will NOT run "Scan Hardware!"
SupportAssist will NOT run "Scan Hardware"! It says "preparing" but nothing happens for several minutes. Then this message appears:
An unexpected error while running this request.
SupportAssist was unable to complete the requested task at this time.
To retry, close the SupportAssist application and run the task again.
If this problem persists, click the Get Support Tab.

Ran scan on 9-7-19. All Dell Support Assist ran fine including the Scan Section. Went on travel three weeks and when I got back tried the Dell Support Assist on 9-28-19 it stopped at the Scan Section and errored out. Ran the Support Assist six times and could not get past the Scan Section. Ran All the "Other Sections "Manually" and they completed, but could not get the Scan Section to run "Manually" or run from Troubleshoot Link. This happened when I originally bought the computer in Feb 2019 and "magically" one day about 3 months later it started working when I ran the "Run All" at the Support Assist startup menu. There were pending Microsoft/Windows updates pending/downloading when I "attempted" to do the Support Assist on 9-28-19...so possibly the latest Window/Microsoft updates interdered with the Support Assist Program ???? To Be Determined

Same problem here! Very disappointing as this is a Dell support application. Got my brand new XPS 15 today, and this is not a very promising start to be honest. Solutions are much welcome.

Hi,
Are you referring to Dell support assist or the MacAfee?
If you are referring to Dell support assist. Let’s uninstall following link shared here https://dell.to/30YmPYx. Restart the system and install Dell support assist from here https://dell.to/2Vrrnp6
After the support assist is installed, run scan with it and let me know if that helps.

I'm a Nursing Student, I need my computer! I bought it 11 months ago, called for tech help, nothing ever gets better! I've been trying to open a Word doc for 4 hours! Support assist after "Get drivers & downloads" continuously freezes or shuts down. My question is, did I just get a lemon? Or is Dell not a reliable manufacturer?

Go to
Windows Administrative tools-->Component Services--->Service(Local).
Find "Dell Hardwere Support"
Right Click on it.
"Restart" the service.
This works for me.

I have tried all of these options and even spoke with someone on Dell's 24/7 hotline. Got the runaround and no solution. I've only had this desktop for a year, and have encountered issues with SA before. They either need to find a sufficient and workable solution, or try a new angle.
In the meantime, I have no idea how I'm going to resolve this issue.

Also, I have tried to resolve this via private message on this forum, but it won't send even after I enter the mod's screen name.
