EMC Power Path 5.3 and MPIO on AIX

Hello All,

I am planning to do power path installation on a AIX box during this weekend but have a road block. That is ,currently I have AIX native MPIO configured in failover mode with the driver that EMC provided. Question, do I need to remove this EMC provided MPIO driver from AIX before installing power path?. Could there be a conflict in path management ,if both existed at the same time ?

these are the EMC ODMs currently installed

EMC.Symmetrix.aix.rte      5.3.0.4  COMMITTED  EMC Symmetrix AIX Support
EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.MPIO.rte 5.3.0.4  COMMITTED  EMC Symmetrix FCP MPIO Support

thanks

Jayan

it's either MPIO or PowerPath, one will need to go, see this guide

Hi,

The statement is correct, you only can have the symm devices under Powerpath or MPIO.

So...

EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.MPIO.rte 5.3.0.4  for MPIO.

and

EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.rte 5.3.0.4 for Powerpath.

As you are running MPIO and going to use PP, you should remove the fileset EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.MPIO.rte 5.3.0.4 and install the EMC.Symmetrix.fcp.rte 5.3.0.4.

Important the actual devices (hdisks) will have to be removed (rmdev), than get them reoconfigured (cfgmgr) with the new fileset inplace or the PP will not see them.
