After some research by ourselves and our local office the requirement for MSC in a mixed environment is that you do need to have a single "access point" i.e. host managing the MSC relationship.
In our case that means we are going to configure some FA ports and get our Windows host currently managing our MSC environment attached to our mainframe only DMX storage frames and let it drive it.
It is my understanding that you could do the same using ECM on the mainframe.
The trick is one host MUST have physical access to the storage frames involved in the MSC group.
