Symmetrix V-max micro code upgrade 5874 to 5875

Hello,

In our environment we are using Symmetrix V-Max with Microcode Version (Number) 5874.248.194. We are planning to upgrade code with 5875. Can anyone please let me know, what I should do prechecks before going for MICRO CODE UPGRADE and also please let us know for best practices.

Q : Is there any cost involved to upgrade the micro code.

Why we are going for upgrade is.

We are facing some issues with older Micro code version.

1) Migrate luns from one thin pool to another thin pool

2) Extend the existing “Hyper TDEV”.

3) Migrate devices from Thick to Thin.

We are using SMC & Symcli for managing our V-Max.

SMC version      : V7.1.1.2

SYMCLI versions:

Symmetrix CLI (SYMCLI) Version       : V7.1.1.0 (Edit Level: 1026).

We also wanted to upgrade the SMC version and Symmetrix CLI version.

Please let us know the best versions.

Q ) Is there any cost involved to upgrade the versions of SMC and Symcli.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

if your system is under active maintenance contract, there is no extra cost.

One thing you do want to be aware of is if you're using GNS make sure you have a good backup.  Upgrading from 5874 to 5875 changes the size of the GRAM area that GNS uses to store device groups.  It works fine if you have Solutions Enabler 7.3 in the environment, but with prior versions of SE you can lose all of the groups.

See Primus for emc265338 details.

we just went through the same upgrade. Did not need to do any emcgrabs because whatever is certified with code 74 is certified with code 75. You do need to upgrade to the latest Solutions Enabler, SMC. Upgrade is non-disruptive

I'm not aware of any feature that allows the migration from thick to thin in 5875 code.
