Symmetrix - zoning same FA to a HBA twice
Hi
Will this work?
zonename
member host hba0
member fa7g:1
member fa7g:0
It seems that having both ports zoned to the same HBA brings one of the paths down, we have noticed this on a VMAX. Will this happen on a DMX too?
Why does it happen?
Thanks

that should not happen ..try single target zoning, where each zone has only one initiator and one target.

Weird.... it can't be the switch that disables 1 of the 2 paths. Maybe PowerPath lpays a role in this ? I think this should work.
But on the other hand: why on earth would you zone a single HBA to the same cpu ?

Why would you ever connect the same host to the both ports behind the same FA? Someone from EMC can correct me but the same CPU slice manages both the 0 and 1 port on the same director # like 7G0/7G1.
As Dynamox stated i wouldnt expect the host to drop a path though if you do it; you may want to open a case with EMC. Are you using PowerPath on the host? If so what does a powermt display paths show?
