Best to start off by checking out the "Symmetrix Virtual Provisioning Feature Sheet", from the Technical documentation (Solutions Enabler) section of PowerLink, as an overview. Then you should also obtain the "Solutions Enabler Array Control and Management documents (both are separate docs). Basically no need to allocate the physical storage to the host in the traditional manner. Physical space needed comes from a "pool".. You'll see more information and then some, from these guides.
