BTP (performance) data can also be gathered by customers using EMC Control Centre's "Workload Analyser" component.
If you have ECC, then you'll need to install a Workload Analyser Archiver agent, and configure some "Data Collection Policies" to start gathering this data. As well as Symmetrix, ECC can also gather performance data from hosts & fibrechannel switches.
If you are talking about the files with extension btp, those are created via the run of STP internal on the Symmetrix for performance gathering. They are managed by the service processor and a performance EMC person would download those files for analysis.
Michael since S.E. 6.4.2 there is also a brand new symapi daemon .. the (unlucky) name is "storstpd" and it can be configured to behave almost like the STP on the SP .. With this tool you'll be able to collect STP data also from customer hosts and feed them to WLA since data collected via ECC does not cover all the metrics in the box while data collected via storstpd gives more details (on SRDF/A just as an example).

Hope that helps,
