symcli command to disable fa port setting for hp-ux host

i'm not very familiar with symcli commands. i know from the symmetrix bin files you can change the FA port setting for specific host, in the case of the HP-UX, there's a flag u have to set, so the symm devices goes from 0-7 and keep on repeating.

what's the symcli command to turn the fa port flag off? and what is the flag for the hp-ux host?

thanks for the help!

set port 04a:0 Volume_Set_Addressing=disable;

that would disable Volume set addressing required by HPUX

did you have a chance to look at that thread ..since you have options of either disabling that flag per port or per host ..what would you like to do ?

symcfg list -sid 123 -dir 8c -p 0 -v

i would not use heterogeneous flag anymore ..i have read somewhere that it will be depreiciated very soon. Look at using hba_flags with symmask, for example

symmask -sid 123 set hba_flags on on V -disable -wwn 10000000abacadae -dir 10b -p 1

so this would disable volume set addressing for this particular host's WWN, but it would still be enable for all other systems on the FA (if it's set per FA right now)

how about for the entire fa port and not per host?

create a file that contains this line:

set port 04a:0 Volume_Set_Addressing=disable;

save the file and then run "symconfigure -sid XXX -f filename commit"

yes, i would like to set it per port.

so what is the full syntax to this:

set port 04a:0 Volume_Set_Addressing=disable;

thanks!

thanks!

that's the syntax ..create a file and add that line with your port name in there ..and then run it with symconfigure

symconfigure -sid XXX -f changeport.txt commit

my 2 cents ... usually it's better to use less dangerous commands while moving the first steps in an unknown land .. I'd suggest to use symmask and disable Volume Set Addressing for your wwns .. Messing with port flags may give you bigger problems. :-)
