No, not doing in a VM. This is on a 2850 running w2k3 SP2. I've re-installed the OS and still the same problem during installation.

I have the exact same problem. Originally I was trying to install in a VM on an ESXi 3.5 server, but after the error I moved to a physical server. I'm still getting the same error on install, though.

I'm also getting the same error on a 2950III...has anyone found a solution?

Not as yet. I've have also now tried to install it all on a 2950III and again it wont install. Still saying configuration failed. It also wont uninstall either. I end up having to re-install the OS each time.

I am going to ring Dell Enterprise Support and see if they have any answers.

I am having the same issue also.  Like those before me I have re-installed the OS and installed the DMC to both a SQL cluster and a local SQL database.  On all occasions the w3wp.exe process causes memory leaks and high CPU usage.  When I googled this it appears to be caused by badly written ASP pages.  I have also run procmon.exe (sysinternals process monitor) and it makes lots of calls to alteris locations within teh registry.

I raised this with our Dell account manager who is escalating it for me.  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the response. It'll be interesting to see what they come back with.

I rang gold support yesterday and today I had a response in the form of a webex session. The engineer had a play on the server, saw it failing for himself, uninstalled everything and tried again. Still the same problem. He is suggesting they have seen this problem when IIS is installed after .net 3.5 although I thought I had done it the other way round but I cant be sure.

They have requested a rebuild of the server in the following order. Install w2k3, install IIS & ASP, install SP2, install any outstanding windows updates, join it to the domain and then take a system state backup. They will then webex again on monday to perform the install themselves from scratch with a clean server installed in their preferred order.

I'll keep this thread updated as to the progress they make.

After rebuilding the server as requested, the install, carried out by a Dell Software Support Analyst, still failed.

It has now been escalated to IPS (International Product Support) in USA.

Hi gburgess,

Can you confirm the following:

1. Your user id that you are installing with and entering in the install screen has full local admin rights on the box (including permissions to restart web services?)  Some companies have security policies that shut down certain things on an OS.

2. Does your IIS installation already have a "default" web site assigned?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

I have tried to install it using domain admin account and local admin both on fresh OS builds. There are no policies stopping the domain admin account from restarting web services.

As the OS is a fresh install IIS is out the box with no changes made to it from the default install.

Thanks.

Extracting files, burning DVD, mounting iso works fine for me... Your ISO is corrupted...

Hi All, Not sure if its the same issue, but I have tried to DL the .iso twice and received the same errors. I tried to extract the files from the iso with 2 different apps as well as mount the iso and copy the files to hard disk and each time it fails. I also burnt the DVD and tried to copy the files off and experienced the same issue. I think there may be an issue with the image, can anyone else extract the files?

Hello,

Has anyone found a solution for this? I'm trying to install DMC on a fresh Win2003 server and getting the same error.

Thanks

Mike

These random config failures often are related to the CRL prereq check.  Please look at FAQ #2.1 under the crl area.  Be sure you click the 'fix' link.  Have you already done this?

Hello Mike,

I had quite a problem with this but I decided to install the full sql2005 on the local server and it seemed to work ok. Make sure you are a local admin and ensure that IIS is set up fesh before running the install.

if the install fails, check the error as well as the event log because you should be able to get a good idea of where the install is failing. I managed to get it runnning on a VM as well although it is really slow. I am going to try and move the VM to a better server and give it a full 4GB RAM and 2 cores of a processor to see if it imporves things a bit...great software once its working although slow (I guess IT asst was too though).

Cant complain if its fee :P
