Dell Openmanage slow

Hi,

I using a ESXi5 (vsphere5) on a R710 Server. I Installed Dell Openmanage on the ESXi Server directly and it works well. But from today the authentification from the Dell Openmanage Server Administrator to the ESXi Server is realy slow!

I had already restarted the Server, check Firewall settings and nothing has been changed. I also tried to install the OMSA on a other machine....but its the same result. I think the ESXi Server have a problem.

I had also a look into the /var/log/syslog.log file. You see here my incomming request from the Dell Openmanage Server administrator:

2012-04-04T08:02:34Z openwsmand: pam_per_user: create_subrequest_handle(): creating new subrequest (user="openmanage", service="system-auth-generic")

You can see here that the server give the Answer back to the OMSA:

2012-04-04T08:02:46Z sfcb-CIMXML-Processor[41174]: --- [openmanage] SendCmd on root/dcim/sysman:DCIM_OEM_DataAccessModule.InstanceID="DCIM_OEM_DataAccessModule1"

But look at the time difference between Question and Answer. This thinks make this OMSA realy slow, but why? is it possible to disable the https protocol from the OMSA for a short test time?

Thanks.

I have the same exact issue.  I've isolated as follows

1) Our management network and Open Manage Web Interface server are on different subnets.  I've change this around to same/same subnet in all cases with no change.  I've ruled out issues with network switching/routing and LAG interfaces via running off single discrete interfaces

2) I've uninstalled/re-installed OMSA 6.5 multiple times as well as the newer OMSA 7.  The delay is the same in all cases

3) I've blown out an ESXi host it it's entirety and done a bare metal rebuild with a fresh ESXi installer.  After loading OMSA back on the server, the sluggishness is identical.

4) I've ruled out the server running the web interface by testing on multiple platforms - same issue on all

5) I'm also using Open Manage Essentials and the default settings for WS-MAN timeout and retry never successfully discover the server.  I need to change the time out to 15 seconds (or higher) with a retry of 2 for it to work properly.

I can't see anything else it would be except an issue with OMSA, the particular build of ESXi 5.0 I am on (the latest fully patched version) or inter-operability between the two.

Any input would be appreciated.

I'm running ESXi 5.0.0 Build 623860 which is update 1.  I went right from 4.1 to 5.0 U1 via upgrade and the 5.0 U1 is the ISO file I used for the wipe and rebuild of my one test machine

Hi JamieOK,

i think it could be possible that the 5.0 U1 update make some trouble with the OSMA?

Entirely possible. It would be nice however if there could be some correlatoin between Dell and VMWARE so one isn't always lagging the other by so long.  As it stands now, it's workable with Open Manage Esssential which is what I really want - the web interface is only for problem remediation.

Is it possible to remove the 5.0.0 Update 1 by a easy way?

Exactly the same problem.  OMSA 6.5 really slowed after 5.0 Update 1.    OMSA 7  is the same.

Howdy all, we asked VMware about this and Vmware pointed us to this article:

kb.vmware.com/.../2016538 .

We are facing the same problem after upgrading from vSphere 5.0 to 5.0u1. It doesnt matter if we use OMSA 6.5 or the new 7.0 VIB version.

Problem is solved by a patch from VMware long time ago. We have no performance problems with OpenManage or the Dell Management Plugin for vCenter anymore.

Are you on 5.0u1 or higher?

Same problem here.  Did VMware KB article above work for anyone?

Just upgraded test server to version 821926 and that definitely helped with OM speeds.  Thanks for the help.
