Dell System Management tools and Documents versions for Power Edge R710 generation 11
I am holding a power Edge 710 (generation 11) circa July 2011 just off lease....( 2ea actually)
Ok...I have SERVICE TAGS and have been on line downloading lots of drivers and management software that seems to be correct for that service tag. BUT I keep getting references to later generations (like 12G) or others that are well after these older R710's that I have.
Very specific question --- I have a gen 11 PowerEdge R710... Is the "Dell System Management Tools & Documentation DVD ISO v8.2' correct for a gen 11 R710
There are similar questions about other support software product versions but what I am hopping exists is a matrix of versions for each generation along with firmware updates and if necessary firmware update installation order which I have noted is required for some updates.
I have NOT turned the systems on NOR have I installed anything yet. Eventually I hope to use the integrated boot support/setup system to get the current firmware status of each piece of hardware. Then I will begin updating as necessary.
But before I do anything I would like to know what system software versions of the management software is compatible with a gen 11 PowerEdge R710.
Give me a link to the matrix or a list of software products with compatible versions that will get me going - for a no OS system with a set of 8 empty Dell 146GB SAS 15K HDD's, 144GB ram, iDRAC enterprise version, with 2ea 870w redundant power supplies. My plan is to use drives 0 & 1 raid 1? (mirroring) for the OS and drives 2-7 in a Raid 5 to begin with. I have hopes of putting in 300GB drives across all 8 slots within a year or 2.
Don't be shy I know I have a lot to learn but I have 35yrs of playing with computer systems in general so how bad can it get <:))
Wess

A lot of management software is cross generations so that explains why you see references to them.
A good way to upgrade all hardware on a system is by starting it to the LifeCycle Controller (F10 during boot) and let it get the latest firmwares from Dell online automatically. Take a look at this older Whitepaper for 11G systems.
Unified Server Configurator: IT and Systems Management Overview
Another way is to create a Linux Boot iso with all the updates using Repository Manager.
Using Dell Repository Manager to create a Bootable ISO and perform updates
If you want to know which OS is supported take a look at http://dell.com/ossupport
Hope this helps to get you started.

Can you help me find the generation 11 catalogs or offline updates?
This is an old post and I cannot find any updates for the gen 11 servers.
