Dell Systems Build and Update Utility

I have two R720 servers which I would like to upgrade with Dell Systems Build and Update Utility.

I have downloaded the SBUU (10 Gb ISO file) and now I'm trying to figure out what o do with it.

Both my servers are ESXi 6.0 and ISO is not bootable ?!?

So what to do?

Hello

I don't know what you downloaded. I suspect that it is the SMTD.

The SBUU is end-of-life. The last version was released before ESXi 6 was released, so the last version of ESXi supported by the SBUU was 5.5. The SMTD used to include the SBUU, but all versions of the SMTD released after the SBUU was EOL do not include the SBUU. The description of the SMTD still states that the SBUU is included, but that is an issue of the titling not being updated to reflect the SBUU being deprecated.

Make sure you have the latest OS driver support pack installed for your LCC and use the LCC to deploy the OS. Our custom ESXi image should contain all necessary drivers for installation as well, so you can boot straight from that image to install.

Thanks

He downloaded SUU (not SBUU or SMTD) ... that is the only download that is even close to 10GB and it is NOT bootable.

SUU is used as a repository only for updates.

Boot first to SBUU or SMTD, choose Update Firmware, then insert and choose the SUU media as the repository.

It doesn't help you with ESXi, but you can run an installer on Windows systems to apply the updates from the OS.

Another alternative is to use Repository Manager to create a custom repository as part of a bootable ISO.
