Firmware updates not available on FTP site
I've got a PowerEdge T320 and I'm running ESXi, so I can't do updates via Windows. When I go into the Lifecycle Controller and connect to Dell's FTP site, the "current" versions listed there aren't current. FTP site shows BIOS 1.46 as current, but 1.50 has been out for weeks. FTP also doesn't show updates for iDRAC7 and the Lifecycle Controller itself.
How do we get Dell to update the FTP site so people like me can get the updates that have been available to Windows users?

Guitarfish,
The repository it is looking at isn't as up to date as the current individual updates. One thing you can do is use the SUU (SERVER UPDATE UTILITY) repository, as I believe that is the most current. With this process you can boot to the BUU (BUILD and UPDATE UTILITY) -
BUU -
Then from the menu swap the BUU disk out with the SUU and select Firmware Update from menu.
SUU -
Let me know how it goes.

Chris, thank you for this response. I suppose the BUU is one way to do it, but it requires physically being at the machine. My server will be at a remote location, so I won't be able to do updates using disks. I realize that doing updates on virtualized servers outside of Windows is relatively new, but this is the direction the IT world is moving, and it would really be good for Dell to be more supportive of that. The Lifecycle Controller is a great approach, but at the moment it's hobbled by the FTP site not being updated. (I was told elsewhere it's only updated quarterly). I don't know who decides such things at Dell, but if you could pass on the the feedback I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

The ftp site is updated quarterly right now, we are in the process of moving this to a monthly update, but we are still a few months away. We have just started updating the catalog.cab file monthly starting in Feb, but the LC uses catalog.xml.gz. What I would recommend is to use Repository Manager to create an SUU repository and post that to a share, then point the LC to that share and it will use that repository to update the system.
Here is the link to the Repository Manager wiki, lots of good videos for how to do what you need. Specifically, you would need to add a dup from the support site to Repository Manager, then you would create an SUU directory for your system, and eventually copy that to a share where LC can see it. The LC catalog (catalog.xml.gz) is due to be updated 4/12/2013. On the link below, scroll down until you see the videos, very good stuff.
