Install Windows Server 2019 on PowerEdge r610

Hi guys,

I have to install Windows Server on PowerEdge r610 via pendrive. I know, that I have to go to BIOS and change booting option. In every single tutorial they said to click F2/F11 button on welcome Dell screen. But on my server I don't see this screen. The only screen I see is a black screen with some informations and after 5 seconds I see yellow-grey screen and something is loading.

I hope everything is understandable, and please help me with it.

Hi,

If you could refer to this youtuber video at 2:35 https://dell.to/3iwhrpO there is a boot screen which you can access to the BIOS via F2.

Try removing both of the PSU power cables, press and hold the power button for 15secs, then install the power cables back and try booting. Is the installation USB still connected to the USB port? If no, try remove it and retry booting.

If you can, try making a video of the server booting from power off state to power on state and upload it to Youtube. Send us the link to the video.

Hello, I had the same recently, and fixed it by ensuring every driver and firmware was the latest version. After that, I changed the boot from UEFI to BIOS, and all was good to go ahead with the Windows Server 2019 install.

PS here is what worked for me later on a 13G Dell PowerEdge T330 with a PERC H730 controller card.

Used Windows Server 2019 Standard Full edition

1. Did a quick format of an 8GB USB on my Win10 Pro Workstation.

2. Downloaded a free (180 day trial) .iso copy of Windows Server 2019 from the Microsoft Download Evaluation Centre

3. Copy and paste the file onto the formatted USB drive, and insert drive into T330 rear USB port.

4. Boot T330, wait for Dell splash screen, and hit F2 for System Set-Up

5. Changed settings from UEFI to BIOS, as booting from a USB did not work in UEFI mode.

6. Exit settings and entered F11 Boot Manager.

7. Select One Shot Boot from USB, and exit Boot Manager.

8. T330 restarts and installs Windows Server 2019. Make sure you select the full version if you want the full Windows Server 2019 GUI version. Windows will install, when you get to the Restart Now window, click Yes.

9. Hard shut down on T330.

10. Repeats steps 6 & 7 (or else you will get a message No boot device or operating system detected)

11. Windows completes installation, where you will need to set up your Administrator password.

12. Power down, remove USB drive from rear port.

13. Power up and the T330 boots to Windows Server 2019

14. Enter Administrator password, click settings, search Windows Updates, and install updates.

15. Ready to do whatever you want.

Hope that helps.
