I'm reasonably certain that's the same KMM in the rack that houses our team's servers. I've used it with a handful of VMware hosts, so I know that it works. I want to say the last version I tested was 6.7. The Datto appliance I really can't speak to at all, I've not worked with one.
The Datto appliance is actually working on this as well. I connected the KMM VGA directly to the our R630 host and still had the same result.
Also..... if you disconnect the VGA you do get the "No signal", so it appears to be getting some sort of signal from the host. One is an R630 the other is an R640
I haven't been able to find anything that looks like it may be helpful. I'm gonna reach out to some friends of mine to see if they may have encountered this situation before.
I've been having a similar problem with the same KMM. I did notice, however, that I got the same result when trying to view adapter options on my Hyve Cignus server. Signal, but a blank screen. The same thing happens on an R410 as well as an NX3100.
One quirk about the Cignus is that once the OS begins booting, I can view the screen and interact with it just fine.
It's weird that the KMM is having issues even if it's connected directly to the server.
@JaFarm did mention about booting screen works fine, how about the server? Do you see anything when it's booting or POST?
@Sean76PA, I'm unsure if there is a hardware failure, but you mentioned the desktop has display on the KMM, so partially seems to be fine. That maybe takes me to think if it's resolution display. I tried checking the KMM user guide, but couldn't find the menu settings in detail, can you try check if you're able to set any resolution, maybe to a lower res?
How many sets of connectors do you have on the KMM? There's nothing in software on the ESXi side that should be causing a problem, so that would leave me inclined to fault hardware, but considering the functionality on the other systems, connectors might make sense. Is that something you may be able to test?
I also thought this was a resolution issue as well. I tried setting the res to a lower 1024x768 and even changing the aspect ratio, but to no luck.
The native resolution put out for the VMware is 1920x1080 according to the AOC monitor that works perfectly fine on the IOGear KVM. Everything switches fine using that monitor and the IOGear, but only the ESXI's do not display VMWare. I may try to see if the BIOS comes up when the ESXI reboots, but that may be a while until that happens.
There is only the VGA, keyboard and mouse connectors coming off the KMM to the IOGear GCS24U which switches the signal based on a physical hardware switch for the 2 hosts, the Datto backup applicance, and a standalone Lenovo desktop PC.
I have just the VGA, keyboard, and mouse. It hooks into my KVM switch with 7 ports on it. I've tried the Dell KMM directly connected to the server in question, as well as with a different VGA cable. No dice. My other servers that do work with it don't have an issue auto-switching resolution when needed.
Just wondering what KVM switch model and brand you are using? I probably should have saved the aggervation and just bought an all in one generic KVM unit off amazon for $800 The one that was bought at a previous company worked great. I just figured that the Dell KMM would work with the current IOGear KVM we have. Especially if I am plugging directly into an ESXI, it should just work...
After reading most of all of your replies, finding it weird that it doesn't display up what it should be. You mentioned other server are working fine except the R410 and NX3100. Any other Dell servers working with the KMM? You said you tried hooking it up directly to the server and no display, does it show "No signal"?. Can you brief us about "once the OS begins booting, I can view the screen and interact with it just fine." Does it mean it is not able to display BIOS menu or POST screen but only when the OS boots, you are able to?
Our issue is with it not displayuing on an R630 and R640 throught he IOGear KVM switch. The display backlights come on, it does NOT display "No Signal" It acts like it has a signal from the two R6x0 machines, but no display. They are both running VMware 7.0 The Datto backup appliance is running a Linux OS and the desktop PC connected is running Windows 10 All connect to the IOGear VGA KVM via VGA connections.
None of my 4 Dell servers (2x R410, R710, NX3100) work with this KMM. As @Sean76PA mentioned, it does not display "No Signal", but the screen lights up, but nothing displays on the monitor. If I hook another monitor up to the front VGA port on those servers, I get video out to that second monitor, and keyboard input works fine though the KMM.
Other, non-Dell servers I have work fine, and I have one server, a Hyve Cygnus, that will show some portions of BIOS and POST, but not others. That was one that I mentioned I have issues if I try to view my HBA adapter settings. I've attached a few pictures of what is going on to show the issue.
The screen works fine, as it will show my console for my pfSense router, as well as the console for my TrueNAS server, neither of which are running on Dell servers.

I'm using a semi-generic Rijer KVM switch from Amazon as well. VGA. It has had no issues in the past sending data to my HP monitor.

Any updates on this issue? I'm still at a loss as to why I'm running into this with only my Dell servers.
