OME and deployment of system updates and remote commands
I remain disillusioned with Dell's system management "solutions". It will scan and detect just about 3 dozen PowerEdge servers in one customer's network and it knows what system patches (BIOS, drivers, firmware, etc...) are missing but when I go to deploy them using a domain admin username & password in the form of domain\username along with the password I get this:
Results: File deploy command failed to execute with error message: Unable to access the specified share on the remote system.
Support says WMI doesn't work correctly and that we have to use SNMP which totally defeats the purpose of WMI. As a consultant I'd have to go to dozens of networks and even more systems to configure SNMP where I should be able to configure OME once at each network and give it a domain admin username & password and it take care of all of it.
In the end, I require OME to work with WMI to detect and deploy all necessary Dell system updates without having to configure SNMP on each machine. If you're not going to be able to use Windows' authentication then remove it from the app.
Also, can we get better errors descriptions? OME claims it cannot access a share, but what share is it trying to access? It's not causing accounts to be locked out so clearly usernames & passwords are being entered correctly (this one LAN locks out after 3 bad attempts and I've tried a dozen times in a row with no success).
Finally, I would like OME to execute the following commands (even if they require 2 different Remote Tasks) remotely on every server once per month on the 2nd Sunday:
omconfig storage vdisk action=checkconsistency controller=0 vdisk=0
omconfig storage vdisk action=checkconsistency controller=0 vdisk=1
Can this be done? Thus far, executing a remote command using Remote Server Administrator Command doesn't work. The commands work fine when executed on the local machine, but when run from OME this error occurs:
Results: Invalid permissions to run the remote command.
Given I'm using the SAME username & password logged into the machine via RDP and executing the commands then the same username and password should work when executed remotely.
BTW, the PowerEdge servers range from 2003 R2 Standard x86 to 2008 R2 Enterprise x64.
Thanks...

Hi and thanks for the post.
I looks like you posted over in the OME forum...good deal. We saw it and are reviewing your question. We'll update over in the OME area.
Thanks!
