OpenManage 5.2 Main System Chassis missing Fans, Temperatures, Powersupplies

Poweredge 2650
W2003 Server Enterprise
BIOS A21 (10/5/2006)
 OpenManage 5.2.0

Upgraded from 4.5, (uninstall old, install new) also upgraded RAID drivers and BIOS, and now can not see Temperatures, Fans or Power Supply Status in open manage.  Have reinstalled.  No errors or warnings during setup.

Can see BIOS, Memory, Network, Ports, Processors, Slots.  Can also see all Storage and Software elements.

How do I get it to see the missing items?

Thanks,

Tom Snyder

Thank you for posting. First you want to make sure that all Open Manage Server Administrator(OMSA) services are started. 4 of them begin with DSM SA, make sure they are started. The last service is mr2kserv, make sure it's started. If services are all started, we might be looking at a potential Embedded Server Management(ESM), aka BMC, malfunction. I see that your BIOS version is up to date, but we need to make sure you ESM is up to date as well. You need to attempt to update your ESM firmware via floppy. If it fails, we know you may have an ESM malfunction. At that point, you will need to replace the motherboard and riser for the PE2650. If it succeeds, another issue may be causing this error in OMSA. Try this out and let us know what happens.

If the flash is successfull, something else must be going on. This could include a possible service conflict with OMSA and another installed application. OMSA 5.2 is a new software architecture, much different from OMSA 4.x architecture. To reveal a service conflict, simply run msconfig, and on the services tab, hide all Microsoft services, then disable all 3rd party services, except for Dell OMSA services. Apply then reboot. Upon reboot, say no to running msconfig again, and then try to open OMSA. If OMSA has all normal information, then you know there may be a service conflict, and you will need to enable the other services one by one rebooting after each with msconfig. If no change, something else is going on, and at that point, for quicker resolve, I suggest that you call in to the Dell Open Manage Support Queue. Thank you.

-Embedded Server Management Firmware for PE2650
1. Download and extract files to a bootable floppy diskette.
2. Boot to the floppy containing firmware update.
3. At command prompt, type smflsh4.exe.
4. If it fails, ESM failure, if it passes, then possible service conflict with new OMSA architecture.

I ran into this when I upgraded from 5.0.0.2 or 5.1 to 5.2. My easiest fix was to completely uninstall the older version of SA and install 5.2 from scratch.

Solved this, the answer is that, on upgrading to the new open manage, when you look in WIndows Device Manager, under the DRAC Card, PCI0 and PCI2 are disabled, enable these two items and restart.  Our company had an internal case on this that I just found - Dell had such a hard time finding this that they actually replaced the motherboard and riser!! before discovering this simple, but very obscure, fix.
