OpenManage Login (Yes, another question about the Login).

Hi,

I have a T620 running Windows 10 Pro. The fans used to be very loud. Then they stopped being loud for a while, and now they are pretty loud again. I did not change any hardware or install any kind of updates. However, I noticed that it says when booting:

2 Virtual Drive (s) found on the host adapter.

1 Virtual Drive (s) Degraded.

I would think that this (the Degraded) is the reason the fans are so loud again!? But I am not sure. I googled a little bit and found a thread on this forum where "Flash" suggested to run some sort of diagnostics. Already forgot what it is called, but it had something to do with RAID. I was going to do that, but I cannot login to OpenManage!?

I have been trying all day, but it never works. I googled for a while trying to figure out what the login credentials are, and even though I believe I found them, still does not work. I found a thread where Flash is saying:

"The host name is not 'administrator'.

Username should be in the format: domain\username and its password. Don't check the Active Directory box if present.

User MUST be a member of the server's Administrator group or a Domain Admin. User MUST have a password.

Use IE, add server to Intranet Zone and try. You MUST be logged in as the admin user. Turn off IE Security Config (at least for administrators)."

I googled on how to find my hostname and it is DESKTOP-L36***S (changed three characters. Not sure if I even have to?). So I use DESKTOP-L36***S/1311 as the hostname.

I then do what flash said. MY Domain is WORKGROUP and my username is P. So I use WORKGROUP\P and as a password I use the same one that I use to login to my computer.

Having said this. I tried every possible combination and it never works. I tried under Hostname / IP address:

DESKTOP-L36***S/1311

DESKTOP-L36***S:1311

WORKGROUP/1311

WORKGROUP:1311

DESKTOP-L36***S

Under username I tried:

DESKTOP-L36***S/P

DESKTOP-L36***S\P

desktop-l36***s/P

desktop-l36***s\P

WORKGROUP/P

WORKGROUP\P

Under password I used my password. Same as the one I login with to my computer...

I am sure I might have not listed all combination I tried, but trust me, I tried them all. Nothing works.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

G

Available options will depend on the RAID controller you are using. I didn't notice it mentioned in any of your posts.

If the controller supports any recovery options then they would be a re-sync, foreign configuration import, or forcing a disk online. Re-tagging the virtual disk may also be an option. You can find out more information in the controller manual.

Hello

I think you are talking about OpenManage Server Administrator, I moved your post from the OMEnterprise forum to general systems management.

You can use tagging to alert a user of your thread @theflash1932. If Flash has that type of alert enabled then they should receive a notification.

OMSA uses your operating system logon credentials. If it is a local logon then you don't need to specify anything, you can just put in username and password. You don't need to put in computername\username with a local logon. You can also use local\username with a local logon if you like. There are many combinations that should work, and what will work may differ between operating systems.

Sometimes, you will receive a pop-up box requesting a user\pass. If you enter a user\pass into that box it will fail authentication. Just close out of that box and make sure you are entering the user\pass into the browser application and not a pop-up.

Daniel,

Thanks for the fast reply and thanks for moving my thread...

Yes, I am talking about OpenManage Server Administrator. I would love to try and see if your suggestion is going to work, but I messed something else up yesterday.

I pulled one drive out to see if the computer would still boot, and it did. I then put that drive back and pulled the other one, to see what happens. That way I was going to find the drive that was degraded. Now my pc is not booting at all and I can see that it says "drive ready for..." I forgot. : )

I will post a separate thread about this issue though...

Thanks,

G

Hi,

I have a PowerEdge T620 running Windows 10. My fans started to get really loud. That is when I noticed that on boot it says one of drives is degraded. Two SSD's running in RAID 1.

Not knowing what to do, I pulled one drives out to see if the computer would still boot, and it did.

I turned the pc off, put that drive back and then pulled the other one. Started the computer, get to see a bunch of Dell stuff, but no Windows.

Turned it off again, inserted the other drive as well (now both drives are in), but I get the same result. A bunch of Dell stuff, but no Windows.

I tried it a few times. Same result. I then noticed a PXE E61 error message!?

I google a little bit and found a way to get into OpenManage (?). I was able to run a hardware test and everything is OK. I also saw that it says that one of the drives is ready to be... i forgot the word... rebuild, I guess.

I have nothing to lose on those two boot drives, which is good. However, I have 4 more drives in RAID 5, and even though their data is backed up, I would like to take them out before trying anything else.

Having said all of that, here are my two questions:

1. How do I initiate the rebuild of one of the boot drives. (If that is what you guys recommend).

2. Is it going to "hurt" to remove all other drives?

Thanks,

G

Daniel,

Thanks for the fast reply.

H710P is the controller.

I also see "hit F for foreign configuration import", or something like that!!!

Man, I guess that is all I have to do!? I will try once I get home.

What about pulling the other drivers!?

Thanks,

BTW, I tried my credentials and they do not work. I tried all kinds of combinations again, nothing. Did this in Chrome and Internet Explorer... No idea why I cannot log in to Open Manage!?

What about uninstalling everything and reinstalling it? Might that help? By everything I mean all Dell related stuff.

Hi,

I just hit "F" to import foreign configuration and that solved the problem. My T620 is now booting again and I can use Windows. However, I still see a drive is degraded. I am going to do a google search on how to find out which drive it is. If unsuccessful, I will be BACK. : )

Thanks for all the help!

G

p.s. I did this without removing the other drives!  : )

It may be an issue with Windows 10. Windows 10 is not supported on the T620. I don't think any of our servers support client operating systems. OMSA can be installed on client systems to remotely manage a server. OMSA may have defaulted to that remote management mode during installation when it detected Win10 as the OS. I would uninstall and reinstall. I think there is a custom installation option, I would make sure it is installing all components.

Daniel,

I uninstalled OpenManage Server Administrator but I haven't reinstalled it yet. Before I do that, let me ask you this:

What software do I really "need"?

I am running Windows 10 Pro on a local machine (T620). I do not need to be able to remotely boot, or manage it.

That said. Isn't OpenManage Server Administrator already part of the BIOS? Not sure if I am wording it correctly, but whenever I boot, there are options available that look very similar to what Open Manage Server Administrator does...!?

Thanks,

G

EDIT: I would like to install something that keeps my system up to date automatically. I believe Dell Repository Manager does that, but I never got that to work either. : (
