PowerEdge 1955 KVM CSR gives errors

I have some problems using KVM on a 1955 Chassis.

The default certificate is not good, so I need to generate a new one and upload the CSR.

Description : CSR error - Upload error.

Resolution :

  • Check if your certificate is correct.

It's strange, I only get errors on uploading the CSR, 512, 1024, it doesn't matter.

Are there some steps to do this the right way ? The docs don't show me it as far as I can find after some hours or research.

Thanks.

YamakasY,

How are you creating the CSR? The Dell branded KVM web interface does not have the ability to generate a certificate signing request (CSR) for signing by an external certificate authority.  It only supports CSR generation for its own self signed certificates.  This is what is done via the  Tools >  Install Web Server Certificate  > Install from: Fields option.

If you have done this, how are you trying to install?

The KVM does support the ability to upload signed certificates (.PEM files) via the Tools >  Install Web Server Certificate  > Install from: File option, but the CSR has to be generated using a separate tool such as openssl.

Let me know.

I do this from the drac/mc webinterface.

Configuration > Security

Or is this the wrong way ?

Does it function if you create and load as I described? Have you had a chance to try it yet?

Hi,

I don't get the tabs the way you describe. Where do I have to see them, when I login to the drac interface or do I have to visit the IP of the KVM in some way ?

Thanks.

I still have this error:

You have asked Firefox a secure connection
to put up with 172.16.0.101, but we can not confirm that your connection is secure.
           Normally, websites trusted identification
show up when you want to prove you to a secure connection
goes right place. The identity of this website can not be confirmed.

           What should I do?

If you usually connect without problems
makes with this website, this error could mean that someone is trying the website
mimic and you should not proceed.

172.16.0.101 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
The certificate is only valid for www.dell.com

(Error code: sec_error_cert_signature_algorithm_disabled)

Is there any tech that can help me out here ? I'm not able to mount any media this way or use KVM.

Hi YamakasY

Can you review the following documents, they describe the differences between the DRAC and KVM:

http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/power/ps4q05-20050263-Singh-OE.pdf
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/power/ps4q05-20050182-Avocent.pdf

from the limited information you supplied, it looks to me that your Browser is unsupported and won't work with the DRAC MC web GUI : keep in mind that the supoprted version of IE is "6", (this is an old product) The last Firmware update released was in 2008: (if all else fails .....There is a Command Line interface that can be used to manage the chassis)

First thing to do is Update the DRAC MC to version 1.6: This will ensure the product supports the most recent browser features.... http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-1855?driverId=R205767&osCode=WNET&fileId=2731123580&languageCode=en&categoryId=SM

For OS deployment & virtual media, you need to connect to the KVM, this is a standard OSCAR interface with no certification requirements.

Review the documents Answer the following questions =

Is this a new install or did something break? i.e. did it ever work?

can you access the blades directly through their front dongle?

Are blades pingable?

do the blades power on and off?

have you connected directly to the blades through the KVM dongle and OSCAR menu?

do both your DRAC MC and KVM have configured IP addresses and are both pingable?

do the DRAC MC and KVM sit on a segragated management network or VLAN?

review, and get back to me.....

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already upgraded to the 1.6 firmware in the past.

  DRAC/MC Date/Time Wed May 29 14:22:42 2013 GMT+01:00
  Primary DRAC/MC Version 1.6.0 (Build 12.04)
  Standby DRAC/MC Version 1.5.0 (Build 10.01)
  Firmware Updated Mon Mar 18 16:51:21 2013 GMT+01:00
  Hardware Version A00

I had this working back those days for the console only, but mounting Media was not possible and gave me that same error

The DRAC and KVM are both on a untagged network for this moment, the same as the workstations are on that connect to it. This vlan is just a Subnet with a untagged VlanID on the same switch. Both IP-addresses are pingable.

I can turn the blades on and off.

My new dongle is on it's way to be delivered, it has always been configurated through KVM.

I have tested with OSX 10.8.3 with FireFox 21, Safari and Windows 8 with IE 10

Do you know enough so far?
