PowerEdge T20 (xeon) - IPMI 2.0 compliant and Linux ipmitool
I just purchased PowerEdge T20 with Intel Xeon cpu. Manual for this machine states it is IPMI 2.0 compliant.
I am really struggling to find a way to enable IPMI 2.0 on this machine. I can see Intel AMT that works fine (I can VNC in, use SOL, power manage etc.).
What I really need is ability to use ipmitool (lanplus) out-of-band to power on and off the machine and change the boot order.
Does anyone know how to get that going ?

Hello
The only system management for the T20 is AMT. The T20 does not have a BMC that supports IPMI.
The only BMC on the system works in conjunction with AMT, and AMT does not support IPMI. The original documentation for the T20 contained a lot of comparisons to the T110, and it appears that some information for the T110 was copied to the T20 source material. Almost all other documentation like the technical guide are created using that source material.
The only two documents I can locate that mention IPMI support for the T20 are the original source book and the technical guide. All documents that have later revisions have omitted anything related to IPMI support for the T20, so it looks like we have corrected this with later document revisions. There is no mention of IPMI support in the product manual, spec sheet, or internal training pages.
Thanks

Hello Daniel,
Thanks for quick reply. One of Dell official docs available on you website still mentions IPMI 2.0 capability -> www.dell.com/.../documents~poweredge_t20_technical_guide.pdf
I recommend you remove it from your website.
That is where I found the info about IPMI prior to purchasing server. The main reason I purchased T20 was to get IPMI 2.0 capability (and great price). Since this is not a case I am returning the server (even though the price was right).
I liked the server, too bad the doc was misleading and I had to spend entire day trying to figure out how to enable IPMI on this thing. Little disappointment.
Anyway thanks again for the reply.
