Reporting on Disk Utilization

Hi

I am using Open Manage IT assistant and I need to report on the total disk space a server has and also the disk space remaining. I have around 70 servers to report on but I cant seem to work out how to create a report that
will show remaining disk space.

any help will be very welcome.

You can directly get the required data from the ITA database using Microsoft Excel or some other database reporting utility. The table that is of interest to you would be the Volume table. The user's guide contains more information about the various table structres (see the chapter on reporting)

Alternatively if you are using ITA 8.0 there is performance monitoring tool whose Logical Disk counters may be of interest to you, it is also capable of generating an alert when the disk usage goes above a set value. The data collected can then be exported and you could use MS Excel or some other tool to format it....

I have version 8 of IT assistant but I cant work out how to get it to report on the either the amount of space free on a volume or the amount of space used.

If anyone has managed to get this working can you please post some dummy instructions for me, thanks.

If you are using ITA 8.0 you can try the perfomance monitornig for generating the report on volume utilization.
  1. Go to Manage->Performance Monitoring and right click on the root node on the left hand side (performnace monitoring tasks) and select new tasks.
  2. Select a suitable name and a sampling interval (since u are only interested in free disk info I would suggest 60 minutes)
  3. On step 3 select Logical Disc -> %Logical Disk Free space
  4. Select the devices u would like to monitor (If there are 10 devices with 5 having one authentication and other 5 having a different authentication u would need to create 2 perfmon tasks for this

Each day you can use export data ( select the task on the left hand side and then select the devices you are interested in the right hand side and right click->export) to create the report. The actual amount of free space is given as a percentage, since the actual size of the disk is also given in the description it should be easy to calculate the absolute free disk space.

If you are only interested in knowing when free disk space falls below a certain % then on step 3 it is possible to generate an alert also, so that you do not have to create the report everyday. Additonaly u can have the low disk space alert generate an email through alert action.
