Diskpart for Windows 2003 won't allow you to extend a boot partition or a partition with a swap file, which means it won't extend the C-partition.

You'll want to do the following steps:

- delete your D-partition

- download extpart from the Dell website

- if your Windows is x64, run the executable on a 32-bit Windows OS (e.g. an XP desktop/laptop) to extract the files, or you can use winzip or so to extract the contents from the downloaded file (it contains a little executable and a readme text file). Then you copy the 2 files to your server.

- if your Windows is 32-bit, you can just run the executable by double clicking it and selecting the destination

- open a dos-window

- if you want to add 8GB (8GB = 8192MB), type in "extpart c: 8192". There is no option to select "max" or so

- after this you can recreate your D-partition if desired

Since Dell apparently took this off, you can get it here:
ftp://ftp.stanlygis.net/ExtPart/extpart.exe

You can also use a Vista/7/2008/2008R2 DVD or a handful of partiioning utilities to do this.  But you must first follow the other steps laid out by Dev Mgr (deleting the adjacent partition).  There are some utilities that can resize partitions while keeping all data intact, but they are generally quite expensive.

Hi, I want to update the information that currenctly AOMEI Partition Assistant has developed a Lite edition< www.extend-partition.com/partition-assistant-lite.html >, which could work on windows server for free. It could let you move the partition which "disk management" not allows, so it is more flexible to use this software.
