Server Update Utility 5.5 does not install updates

Hoping that I've just missed an obvious checkbox somewhere, and am re-downloading the ISO incase there was a problem in transit.

I downloaded the Dell DVD ISO of the Server Updates Utility ver 5.5.0 A00 and have so far been unable to use it.

I've tried burning the image to DVD, mounting it via the DRAC and also copying the files off the DVD onto a network share.

The program runs,m does the manifest and pressents me with the comparison report, advising what does/does not need to be updated. If I click upgrade, I get the popup enquiring if I really want to upgrade all the various things that were checked on the comparison report. I click Yes and nothing further happens.

I've tried this on a 2950's, 2900's and 2650's running a variety of x86 and x64 versions of server 2003/2008 and all with the same result.

Am I missing something fundamental here, or have I just grabbed a duff image?

Cheers in advance.

I was having the same problem with version 5.5.2 A00.  The cause:  the ISO I downloaded was only half of the complete ISO.  The download page has two parts.  I needed to download and join both parts before getting a complete ISO.

The cofusion is due to the file extension given to the parts. I think they should be named xxxx.iso.001, and instead of xxx.001.iso.  The 1st part open and burns without any errors so you never suspect somerthing is missing.

I too am having the same problem on all of my servers. I downloaded the complete .ISO from ftp and have tried leaving it on the hard drive as well as a DVD and nothign works. It will repsent me with a list of updates, I'll click on upgrade, then hit yes to comfirm and it does nothing. Anyone found a way around us?

2 Major issues.

1 .  Internet Explorer wont download DVD images cuz they are too big.   Install Firefox and do that way.

2.  Any Destination drive that is FAT32 will not be able to hold a DVD image because the max file size for FAT32 is 4 gigs.

If you format a Drive like an external USB drive as NTFS then you can save to that drive.

I had the same issue for other DVD images including Knoppix DVD

My problem was just an incomplete ISO image.  On the download page there are two iso files available for download, xxx.001.iso and xxx.002.iso.  I needed to download both and join them using copy /b command.  Only then I was able to get a complete ISO.  Using this iso i was able to install updates on servers.

Try downloading them from the webpage rather than ftp.  Every once in a while FTP can make the file corrupted.

Yeah the problem with mine is that I've extracted the data from the .ISO and tried to run it from the hard drive as well as burning the .ISO and can only get as far as it showing the updates it wants to do to the computer and then just nothing. I can hit Upgrade all I want and it will not run the upgrade. I'd chualk it up to being something related to the machine if it wasn't happening across all my servers. At my other workplace I did the upgrades and they went with no issue. I too saw hte .001 and .002 ISO images, but op'd for the whole ISO image from 5.5.2 I think. Maybe I'll try to download the ISO again and see if that does the trick.....
