Systems Management Tools and Documentation and SBS 2008 install
Hi,
I am using the SMTD 5.4 rev A00 disc to try to install SBS 2008 on a PowerEdge 2950III. The process works fine and I chose Server 08 x64 as the os. Once it asks me for the disc it thinks for a second and brings up the following error;
Script: C:\remindpopup2.vbs
Line: 123
Char: 4
Error: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Code: 8007001F
Source: WshShell.Exec
[OK]
I did find an updated version of the SMTD 5.5 rev A00 however I can only seem to download the last two iso files.
Does anyone have any help with this problem before I try to call Dell?

Just remove any mapping for SAN, fixed it yesterday 12/09/2012 and delete raid in case if you don't have SAN, we have M610 blade servers

Hi Michael, I am having the same problem with a 2950 with bios version 2.5.0. i downloaded 5.5.0 and created the ISO file and burned it to dvd and still have the same error problem. I called Dell and they are telling me to try an earlier version of the bios. We currently cannot do that so i am trying to get that file from the DVD on to the c partition of the server. this error can not find script file c:\remindpopup2.vbs, does not happen when you install windows server 2003 or any other 2003 versions of the software.

Hi roxworth,
When I first tried was with Bios 2.3.1 and SMTD 5.4 rev A00, i'm going to try now with Bios 2.3.1 and SMTD 5.5 rev A00. Fingers crossed this will work. Dell didn't seem to know what to do except try 5.5.
This error does not happen even when installing Server 2008 (not SBS) x64 as I have installed it on this server previously.

Hi roxworth,
Good news! I can confirm that SMTD 5.5 rev A00 works with Bios 2.3.1 on a PowerEdge 2950III and I have successfully started the SBS 2008 install.
I hope this helps someone.

Michael,
Just curious, did you have anything external plugged in when you started the install the first time, and when the time it worked?

Nevermind, all we needed to do was recreate the array.
The problem was the SMTD lays down a script file on the drive, or array if you will. Then after the system reboots, the script file runs, and kicks off the 2008 install.
The script file that kept getting written, wasn't overwriting the previous file, and so everything the install would start again, it would just boot to that same problem file, and not work off a fresh script.
When we recreated the array, we essentially erased all those script files, and did it fresh, and it worked.

Hi,
It worked for me after removing the FC cables for the server or otherwise remove the server from the SAN configuration on the FC switch during the OS install.
Thank you for the hint.
