how to manage RAID array remotely? HELP!!
Hi Guys,
Well, what a day of pulling my hair out I can tell you. Firstly, our new dell 1950's are great servers and I really love the build quality and design thought that has gone into them... shame that the software lacks the same ease of use.
All I want to do is to be able to install software onto the server so that in the event of a disk/raid failure, we get an email. Plus, I want to be able to login to view the raid array status and rebuild if required via a web browser remotely just as I can with our servers using 3ware raid cards.
Now I've called tech support and they said for this task, I need to install this:

I've followed the instructions and no output at all comes from running the installer, when running the start programs script it gives no RPMs installed.
Can anyone here please shed some light as what I need to do in order to fufil what are pretty basic requirements in terms of server management? Virtual beer to the person that nails this ;)

Thanks for posting! Did you run the two commands on the download page:
2.Run the following command to perform an express install:
sh linux/supportscripts/srvadmin-install.sh --express
3.Start the applicable services by running the following command:
sh linux/supportscripts/srvadmin-services.sh start
Did you get any errors? If nothing seems to happen, look for an omsa install log file, and check for errors there. Once you get OMSA installed on the servers, you will need to configure your snmpd.conf file to direct SNMP traffic to a specific 32-bit Windows system. On the Windows box, you need to install IT Assistant:

Then go to http://support.dell.com/enterprise_videos and follow the instructions for setting up SNMP, discovery ranges, and email alerts in the OpenManage Enterprise Tutorials section.
