iDRAC6 / USC / LCC controller update via console redirection
ok, so i finally got console redirection working on my new server, which is VERY cool (although choppy / slow)..
now i want to know if i can update the BIOS/FW from that console when remote? the LCC option at the BIOS startup is disabled, so it would appear that this is not supported, which doesn't make any sense to me.
can anyone provide clarification on if/how this works?

ok, so even though the UCS said all my firmware was up to date (well that and the Dell repository is "corrupted", but that's another story) i went ahead and tried to reload all the firmware / BIOS settings.
interestingly enough after the idrac and lcc updated, i can now see the USC from the virtual console..
maybe it's a version limitation?

Thanks for posting! If this is a new 11th generation server, you can use Console Redirection to boot the server into the USC by pressing F10 on the Dell splash screen. In the USC you can use the firmware update function to update the server from the latest updates available on our FTP site. Bear in mind that you can't update the drivers with the USC. The only thing you can't update during Console Redirect is the DRAC itself. You can still run the Dell Update Packages for the drivers from inside the OS, and you can mount the ISO for the Dell Server Updates disk using the DRAC's Virtual Media function to update everything except for the DRAC itself.
Bear in mind that this will take a bit longer than running the updates locally.

Jeff,
thanks for the prompt response!
my challenge is that the option to enter into the USC is not available from the console redirection session, it's been removed. however if you are stating that this feature doesn't work either way from the console redirection screen, then i suppose it's a moot point.
let me ask my question differently then. is there a way to access the LCC remotely and perform out of band updates?

does it say system services disabled or the F10 option is not visible at all? And just to be sure, this is on the post screen, upper right corner where it shows F2= System setup?
