I've not heard that iDRAC could block from logging in after powered down for few days of non usage. Though, the server were meant to be turned on for most of the time to serve. So are you saying that the iDRAC reverts back to it original IP and login credentials? or it's purely not accessible till you reset it, set the IP and login credentials then it's acceessible till the next power down for few days?
Have you tried soft resetting it through SSH? https://dell.to/35cc5vj. Have you done all the hardware firmware updates?
> So are you saying that the iDRAC reverts back to it original IP and login credentials? No. I see the server on my lan when its turned off, that is, iDRAC. I can also access the iDRAC web interface. But when I try to login to root user with the password I changed it to, it no longer accepts that. Last time I've reset the password via BIOS is about 3 months and there have been a few power outages since.
I was thinking that can it be the BIOS backup battery that is shot and as a result it does not keep the password saved. But then I can't even access the iDRAC via default user/password either. So I'm at a loss.
In order to solve this issue, I have to go down to my basement, take a monitor and keyboard and reset the password by logging into the BIOS. I then check to make sure if the new password is being accepted by the iDRAC, which it does. I do not reset anything else, like IP or so. IP comes from my router via DHCP.

Chris I'm a programmer and a geek, this is my first rack server so I haven't done anything fancy with it. All I've done here is to connect the server to my switch, including the iDRAC port. I then connect to iDRAC using the web interface. And having the issue with it that I reported.
If by dedicated you mean that have I plugged in the iDRAC Ethernet to my switch and gotten IP address for it via DHCP, then the answer is yes.
Would you confirm if you're connecting the iDrac with the dedicated port, or is it set to Shared for the LOM port? If shared, do you see the issue when using Dedicated?
iDRAC IP remains the same within my network and haven't changed since the first time it was set. I'll make it static within my subnet for future.
> It will be strange that you cannot login to iDRAC after a few days of powering down. Does this happen every time or just once?
It has happened consistently after a few days.
> If you can access to iDRAC via it's IP, that's good. You can SSH to the IP and do a reset. The link can show you how, RACADM. So when you're not able to login to iDRAC, try soft reset.
I want to resolve this issue, meaning that the root password should work. I have a workaround in place right now to reset via BIOS. I'm looking for this issue to be fixed.
It's not very advisable to do a DHCP on an iDRAC. If you could, do a dedicated IP.

It seems that you know what you're doing, I bet you already have tried logging in using different browsers and cleared cache and cookies, right?
When you are not able to login iDRAC GUI, can you SSH into iDRAC and try the login. If you're not able to, iDRAC should be having issues, could be hardware.
Are you running on Windows? If yes, download the DRACTOOLS from the support site, and do a hard reset on RACADM to reset the iDRAC hardware.

What help can I get?
