BMC via serial port (NOT serial over LAN)

Hi,

 

PowerEdge 2950 with no DRAC.  I am trying to access the BMC via the serial port, not serial over (SOL), or DRAC.  According to the docs, this is possible.  I am looking at:

I have configured the BIOS as stated but here: 

 

Under the section "Configuring System BIOS in Dell PowerEdge™ x9xx and xx0x Systems".  I also looked at the section "Configuring System BIOS in Dell PowerEdge™ x8xx/x9xx Systems" (which is confusing becuase both sections apply to my system) but my system doesn't have a "Serial Port 1" option in "Integrated Devices" so I can't set BMC Serial, which is what I want.  I also don't see a way to "Set BMC Serial Connection Mode to Basic for IPMI Shell or Terminal for Terminal emulation".  I checked in the BMC configuration as well as system setup.

 

I know the serial port, cable and terminal software work because I can get basic serial console redirection working.  I just updated the BIOS and BMC firmware to the latest version but am still having no luck.

 

Any help would be appreciated.  I searched the forums but could only find people having trouble with SOL.
